Vesta case
Vesta case, in silver with a hinged lid. The item is hallmarked and there is a striking surface on the base to light the matches it contained. Engraved on the front: 'C.R. Discovery, Edwin Bate'. Reverse: 'Keel laid 7th March 1900, Launched 21 March 1901, Trial 14th May 1901.' Edwin Bate (1836-1915) was a shipwright at Portsmouth Dockyard.
