Submarine cable section
A portion of submarine cable. Cylindrical, brass mount at either end. Ten galvanised iron wires form outer covering. Inner core of stranded copper wire surrounded by gutta percha compound and tarred hemp. Pieces of the first Atlantic telegraph cable repaired by cable ship "Kangaroo" master Harry Manning.
