Ensign staff of Admiral Markham

A ensign staff wooden staff surmounted by a silver naval crown. There are 4 silver bands down the staff, the lower one is modern, The top band is engraved with a crest with a winged iron and a lyre. Insrcibed from top to bottom on the staff are the words "I DARE DO ALL THAT MAY BECOME A MAN, WHO DARES DO MORE IS NONE. 1875, LAT 83.20, 26N, MAY 12TH 1876, aDMIRAL SIR A.H. MARKHAM'S ENSIGN, PRESENTED BY LADY MARKHAM CBE AND HIS DAUGHTER JOY". There is a crack in the wood at the top of the naval crown.
