Silver cup and cover presented to Captain Richard Shaw, 1898.

The cup has acanthus leaf decoration on the base of the bowl and on the lid and loop handles, and a border of scrolling foliage around the top of the bowl. It stands on a round foot decorated with a border of leaves, and the tall lid has a fir-cone finial. The cup is gilt on the inside.

The side of the bowl is inscribed 'PRESENTED BY THE LORDS COMMISSIONERS OF THE ADMIRALTY TO Captain Richard Shaw OF THE STEAMSHIP "Turquoise" in recognition of his valuable services to Her Majesty's Naval and Military Forces at Kandia, Crete, on the 6th September 1898’. The foot is inscribed 'ELKINGTON & CO LTD SILVERSMITHS TO THE QUEEN, 22 REGENT ST LONDON'.
