Reading glass

Oval silver-framed reading glass, folding into horn or tortoiseshell covers and inscribed 'George Brummell'. It is believed to have belonged to the Georgian dandy, George Bryan Brummell (1778 - 1840) also known as 'Beau Brummell.' It came with a fob seal bearing the initials 'GB' (JEW0051) also thought to have been Brummell's. REL0026 is a similar glass that belonged to Vice-Admiral William Bligh (1754-1817).
