Book of Common Prayer

Prayer book belonging to Lieutenant John Carslake RN (1785-1865) with a red leather cover and a gold border on the front and back and gold decoration and title down the spine. The inside covers have marbled paper. The book is printed with black ink. Inside the last few pages is a sketch of a man. Inscribed: 'John Carslake August 9th 1799'. Carslake entered the Navy in January that year as a Volunteer First Class in 'Royal George' and later served as a midshipman in 'Victory' at Trafalgar.
