British Reliance (1949); Cargo vessel; Oil tanker
Scale: 1:48. A large, cased, shipbuilder’s exhibition model of a single screw motor tanker. ‘British Reliance’ (1949) was built by Sir James Laing & Sons Ltd. for British Petroleum Tanker Co. It was engaged in worldwide trading, first with crude oil, then a mixture of crude and black oil products. Small by today’s standards, it was 547 feet in length, just over 11,000 GRT (gross registered tons) and had a service speed of 14 knots.
