Exploration/research vessel; Small craft; Arctic boat; Hand cranked

Scale: 1:12. Full hull model of a double-ended arctic boat (circa 1852). Built and carved from the solid. At this scale the model represents a boat measuring 30 feet in length by 7 feet in the beam. It represents a double-ended boat proposal by Sir Samuel Brown for use in arctic waters and is fitted with two screws amidships which are worked by a double crank mechanism inside the boat. The blades of the propeller feather, or lay flat, so they are able to pass through the keel when in use.
