HMS Centurion (1892); Warship; 2nd class battleship

Scale: 1:92. Half block model of HMS Centurion (1892), a 2nd class battleship made entirely of wood with metal fittings. The lower portion of the hull is painted a copper-bronze colour which is divided by a thin white line towards the waterline. The lower hull is fitted with a rudder and a propeller shaft at the stern as well as a ram at the bow. The upper portion of the hull is painted black and includes circular portholes, gunports and apertures, a pair of oval shaped hawsepipes painted red internally, gun and anchor apertures, all of which have been carved into the hull. The main deck and bridge decks are finished in a natural wood and varnished with the individual deck planks marked in black ink. There is a single oval-shaped funnel (one of a pair mounted athwartships) mounted on a rectangular block of superstructure painted white. Between the forward and aft bridges, which are connected by a raised walkway, are a series of three rectangular and square blocks of superstructure, all of which are painted white. Mounted along the centreline on the main deck either side of the central superstructure are two circular gun turret bases painted black. Other fittings include a pair of capstans, deck hatches and skylights, all of which are painted white together with a pair of stump masts painted a pinkish-red. The whole model is mounted on a wooden backboard which is overlayed with either paper or cardboard and painted a yellow-brown with a painted black moulded edging.
