Warship

Scale: Unknown. Sectional model of a warship with proposed a proposed coffer dam for repairing leaks when afloat made from wood and metal and painted in realistic colours. The lower portion of the hull is painted in a dark copper to indicate sheathing with the upperworks in black separated by a thin white line along the waterline. The bulwarks above decks have a thick white line running horizontally up to the capping and are hinged so that they can be dropped to allow the operation of the gun. On one side of the hull is the wooden coffer dam secured to the hull by rigging and mounted on felt pads against the hull. The upper deck which is marked with cross hatching to indicate armour plating is painted black and can be removed to reveal the gun and its raising and lowering mechanism inside of the model. The gundeck and deck below are finished in natural wood and varnished with individual planking scored which finishing with a wooden edging. There is a single muzzle loading gun mounted on a wooden sliding carriage the whole of which can be raised and lowered within a metal framework operated by ropes and two large rectangular counterbalances which are stored on the deck beneath when the gun is not in use. There are two locking cleats that set amidships which hold the gun and its frame in position when not in use. On the lower deck there is a large cylindrical pillar together with four small circular pillars supporting the gun and its mechanism above. There is a separate larger cofferdam which tapers towards the top with parts missing finished in natural wood with the remains of rigging secured to eyebolts at each end.
