Project (fl.1805); Fighting vessel; Mortar boat

Scale: Unknown. A full hull model of the mortar boat Project (1805), made entirely in wood and painted. The hull below the waterline is painted white, black above and the stem post, keel and stern post appear to be painted black. A strake runs along the length of the hull and two deep rectangular recessed sections are removed from the bulwarks on each of the amidships port and starboard sides. The aft starboard section has a lid that can be raised to enclose it. A single row of square-shaped portholes or gunports are set into the bulwarks as well as the aft starboard lid. The single deck has two rectangular wells that align with the recessed sections and these wells each have recessed circular beds for accommodating mortars. Other fittings include a rudder. The model is mounted on a pair of shaped wooden crutches and displayed on a rectangular wooden baseboard.
