Ordnance model; Gun model
Scale: 1:5. Working model of a forward pivot mounting. Both the elevation of the gun and its training can be operated by turning two hand wheels; the right-hand wheel for elevation and the left-hand wheel for the training. The gun itself has been roughly formed from wood to give an indication of its position on the mounting. The carriage is mounted on a substantial oak baseboard, on which is fixed a plaque. The plaque is inscribed "Sir W. G. Armstrong Whitworth & Co Ltd Manchester Forward pivot carriage for 4.72 Bl guns Naval service scale 1/5.". The carriage has been made from steel and the training and mounting mechanism has been made in brass.
