Equipment model; Ordnance model; Mortar model

Scale: 1:8. A working model of mortar (circa 1850) with a revolving carriage on a two-tiered octagonal bed complete with a circular brass ring. The model is largely made of wood with brass fittings. The mortar bed is made of solid planks of mahogany stained a dark brown finish. It has a convex back and is held together using brass straps through which pass brass bolts, secured with hexagonal brass nuts. The mortar is cast in solid brass with an opening for the muzzle together with a touch hole on top and a pair of angled, rounded handles. The tompion is turned from a solid piece of oak and is painted red. The mortar is seated in the bed at an angle of about 45' but can be elevated and also lowered flat for stowage. .
