cat-o'-nine-tails

Cat-o'-nine-tails. Wooden handle covered with faded red baize cut in zig zags at the ends. Coursely sewn with twine. Nine cords with red cords laid up in each lash (distinguishing colour for HM Dockyard, Portsmouth). Three knots per cord, ends bound. Presented to RUSI by Commander, C.R. Low, Indian Navy.
