Chemistry set

Wooden box with two hinged flaps opening in the centre to reveal a central compartment containing two small cardboard boxes marked "C Baker, Optician, 244 High Holborn, London WC" with opthalmic drugs inside. Rest of centre cavity filled with newspaper and miscellaneous empty glass chemical bottles. Two small compartments in each of the two lid sections padded out with newspaper and also containing miscellaneous drug bottles. Found inside midshipman's chest of D.L. Tyson. This is a nineteenth century chemistry set (as the label on the inside also says), for a description and illustrations of such sets see Jensen 2011. The 'opthalmic drugs' are samples that could be used for tests; they have simply been put in these boxes because the original shelve in the middle of the chest was lost.
