Ethnographic boat model
Ethnographic boat model of a Tek-pei or Taiwanese bamboo sea-going raft (circa 1890), built at a scale of 1:12 and equipped with four paddles and a gangplank. Made from bamboo poles, bent and lashed together with bamboo fibre, these rafts were used for fishing around the south China coast. They could be rowed but dagger-boards were used to help reduce leeway when under sail.
