Cutlass
Cutlass, the hilt of a cutlass consists of a steel half-basket guard. The cutlass has a black cast iron grip. The cutlass has a straight, flat steel blade with a double-edged spear point. The blade was cut down in 1875. The obverse of the blade is engraved with the letter 'W' and a crown motif with the letter 'E' above, and the number '12' below, along with the letter 'N'. The reverse of the blade is engraved with the letters 'R', 'W' and 'S' and a crown motif with the letters 'BR' above and the number '8' below. The letter 'S' has been stamped over a previous mark, which was either the letter 'E' or the letter 'F'. The brown leather scabbard has a brass locket, a frog hook and chape. Inside the throat of the scabbard are two flat springs, which retain the blade in the scabbard by pressing on each side of the cutlass. The reverse of the scabbard is stamped with the letters 'N' and 'W', a crown motif with the letter 'E' above it and the number '1' below. The obverse of the locket is stamped with the number '3'.
