Night clock
A brass night clock made in France circa 1800
The florally engraved brass case is mounted on a turned brass pedestal and shows the hours. The hour disc has pierced Roman numerals that are visible through a downturned lunette below a pierced fleur de lys. The clock is designed to have a small oil lamp fixed behind the movement and the light passing through the pierced parts allows the time to be read at night. The single train movement features Chevalier de Bethune’s jointed pallet escapement.
