SENsory Sailors is a fun workshop created for families and people with disabilities and additional needs. It takes place once a month at the National Maritime Museum and is led by disabled creatives.

This page will help you understand what will happen at the event.

When you get to the Museum

SENsory Sailors takes place during the National Maritime Museum's regular opening hours.

We recommend coming to the Romney Road entrance of the Museum.

When you come into the Museum, a member of staff will welcome you. They will be wearing the blue uniform of the Museum and their name badge on a lanyard around their neck.

Let them know that you're here for the SENsory Sailors event, and they will show you where to go.

The door to the Group Space is automatic. To enter, press the button by the door.

The Group Space has a laminated tile floor and windows that allow natural light into the space.

There are some soft benches and some hard benches in the space. Other seating can be provided if you need it.

During SENsory Sailors

The SENsory Sailors activities in the Group Space will be set up from 11am. Your family can arrive from this time.

There will be some drinks and snacks in the room and you can bring your own food into the Group Space too.

You can join in with different activities.

You can leave the session to go home or explore the rest of the museum at any time. If you need to leave the room during the session, your adult must stay with you. You can come back whenever you’re ready.

A sensory tent will be available in the room during the workshop. You can use this whenever you want.

If you need to take a break and have a quiet moment at any point, speak with a member of the team and they will show you where to go.

The session finishes at 12.30pm.

If we all need to leave the Museum quickly

If we need to leave quickly during SENsory Sailors, you will hear an alarm ringing in the building.

That means we all need to leave the building quickly and calmly. Just follow a member of staff or these signs.
