March can be a challenging month.
It will be sunny one day and rainy the next, summer is looming but isn't here yet, and everyone is keen to finish the financial year with a bang! And by golly, did the RMG Events team finish the year with a bang!
In the same week that we hosted a hot air balloon on our grounds for the very first time for a product launch, we were thrilled to attend two awards ceremonies.
The Party Awards inaugural celebration, hosted at the Odeon Luxe, was a celebration of Christmas Parties (we know, Christmas was months ago, but we still have that festive feeling). Amongst our peers, we were thrilled when the National Maritime Museum received Bronze for Best Large Venue 500+. The National Maritime Museum reopened in 2025 after refurbishment works provided a brand new roof, inbuilt audio-visual capabilities and new standout objects in the main event space, Ocean Court. It's a thrill to return to hosting events in this immense space, and it is lovely to have been successful in the very first award we submitted this iconic national museum for since it reopened.
But that wasn't enough! The very next day, we were off again to the Prestigious Star Awards, hosted at Harrods. These awards hold special significance as each stage of the process is determined by votes from luxury venue professionals, event clients and attendees, venue partners, and suppliers worldwide. Over 2000 venues are reviewed across the globe each year and only 200 are selected worldwide for the nominations. From that 200, only 3 venues in each category can make it to the finalist stage. In 2024, we were delighted to win awards for Cutty Sark, the National Maritime Museum and Queen's House.
This year, we were nominated in several categories - Cutty Sark for Best Gala Dinner Venue, National Maritime Museum for Best UK Venue, and our own department lead Sophie Linin for Best Venue People. We were thrilled to discover that Cutty Sark reached the final 3! I'm sad to say that we lost out on the top prize, however were absolutely thrilled to instead receive a separate award - Best Performing Venue! This was decided out of all the nominees in every category, and based on the outstanding feedback provided on our venue during the voting stages.
To be singled out for the positive feedback of our clients, out of over 2000 global venues and suppliers, is truly overwhelming, and speaks to the culture we foster here. Nothing is too small or too big to be off limits, the event vision is paramount, and we will stop at nothing to ensure the success of your event.
But...it still wasn't over! As we also submitted an event into the Best Event category. A few days before the awards, we were told it had made it through to the final 3 and Sophie was invited onstage on the evening to garner audience support as the winner would be voted for by the attendees. With just 30 seconds available to her, Sophie explained that the event in question, a celebratory event at Cutty Sark with an Under the Sea theme, was exactly the sort of event we love to host. Take a look at these photos at the side for a glimpse of this sea-themed spectacle. Give us a brief, align the concept with our venues' themes, and go wild! And, dear reader, we won!
Awards are not the be all and end all of what we do here at RMG. Our focus is always on the next event, your event, the event we're trying to win, the event we just hosted. However, sometimes it is difficult to see the wood through the trees and weeks like this, with awards like this, are due to the Events team's sterling hard work and dedication. And we couldn't do it alone!
Events at RMG are a true collaboration, with our visitor services team, our estates and security team, our cleaning and porter messenger team, and many others whose early mornings, late nights and sore feet go unnoticed by most. It is an honour to share these awards with everyone here at RMG, and if you're visiting soon, you'll see them proudly on display in our Staff Reception area.
