Midshipman's journal kept by Shipton on the armoured frigate HMS DEFENCE (1861) on the Mediterranean and home stations, 1877-1879; the armoured frigate HMS NORTHUMBERLAND (1866) on the home station and at Lisbon, 1879-1880; and the corvette HMS CARYSFORT (1878) in the Far East, 1880-1881.
