Steevens family papers
Most of the items relate to Rear-Admiral Charles Steevens (1705-1761). There is a letter from the Nabob of Arcot, 1760; and an account of his naval career written by his grand-nephew, Lieutenant-Colonel Nathaniel Steevens (1827-1894). There is also a workbook used by his nephew Midshipman Charles Steevens (1735-1756), while studying at the Naval Academy, Portsmouth; and a book of jokes, morals and proverbs.
