Trafalgar Captain : Durham of the Defiance /Hilary L. Rubinstein.
A biography of Admiral Sir Philip Durham (1763-1845). Born in Fife, Durham joined the Navy in 1777, serving in HMS Trident. He went on to have a lengthy and successful naval career serving in the American War of Independence, French Revolutionary War and the Napoleonic Wars. He most famously commanded HMS Defiance at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805 when he captured two enemy ships and survived serious wounds. He served as commander-in-chief of Portsmouth and as a Member of Parliament.
