H.M.S. Magicienne in the Trou Fonfaron
This watercolour drawing depicts the Royal Naval vessel ‘Magicienne’ a 36-gun vessel launched for the Royal Navy in 1812, and converted into a 24-gun warship in 1831. This painting depicts the ship moored in the bay of Trou Fanfaron, in Port Louis, Mauritius, part of which is depicted in the background and general scene. The ‘Magicienne’ is shown with all sails furled, anchored and moored to the shore. Just behind and astern of the ‘Magicienne’, a smaller two-masted Brigantine is also shown moored and anchored. The day and sea are both depicted as calm.
