The Ariadne in a storm
This print depicts the 20-gun 'Ariadne' pitching at an impossibly steep angle in a storm. Captain Frederick Marryat, the writer of sea and children's stories, commanded the second ship between 1828 and 1830. The artist was probably Cornelius Dealy, recorded in the Navy List as promoted to paymaster and purser on 24 December 1840.
