The Rt Honble Earl Howe
An oval bust-length portrait of Richard Howe, Earl Howe (1726–1799) admiral’s undress uniform, 1787–1795, with his left arm raised. Lettered beneath the image with the title, ‘The Rt. Honble. Earl Howe’, and the production detail: ‘W. Ridley sculp.’ This portrait was engraved by William Ridley and published on 31 July 1794 by Benjamin Crosby (of 4 Stationers Court, Ludgate Street, London) as an illustration in ‘The Register of the Times, or Political Museum’, volume 1 (1794), opposite page 1. This impression has been cut down, removing the publication line. (Updated June 2019.)
