Magicienne 24 guns
This watercolour painting depicts a starboard-side view of the ‘Magicienne’, a 36-gun vessel launched for the Royal Navy in 1812, and converted into a 24-gun warship in 1831. This painting was produced after that date in 1833, as highlighted the inscription describing a 24-gun ship. The ‘Magicienne’ is shown here on a clear day with good winds, with her jib and main sails unfurled. The sea is lightly choppy, but all in all good sailing conditions are shown. The ship is flying a British Naval Ensign from her mizzen mast. The painting is signed by the artist, and inscribed with the ship’s name and her number of guns (24).
