An original, signed watercolour of the three-masted clipper, Cutty Sark (1869) showing the port side of the ship in full sail with the sleek lines of a fast clipper, making good way on a starboard tack against a clear sky. There are no other vessels in the picture. Men are seen working on the foredeck and others can just be seen high in the rigging reefing the topmost sail on the mizzen mast. The lowest (course) sail on the mizzen mast is loosely furled to the yard. Figures are seen at the stern raising a series of flags denoting Cutty Sark's identity number in Commercial/International Code (the second flag wrongly coloured). A blue and white company flag flies from the top of the main mast.
