Studies of a rowing boat, two sailing vessels and a fisherman
This pencil sketch shows a Deal galley punt, fitted for six oars, drawn up on a beach, with fishing nets hanging from the mast to dry. The vessel’s name (‘Sparrows’) and home port (‘Deal’) are inscribed on the stern. Inscribed top right with the artist’s name, ‘F.W. Cox’, and ‘2nd for Set’. Further inscribed lower right with the location and date that the drawing was made: ‘Deal / Sept. 1912’.
