The oak Battle Honours shield for the battleship HMS Resolution (1915) mounted on the aft side of 'X' Turret. The honours inside the wooden shield surrounded by carved ropework are Kentish Knock, 1652; North Foreland, 1653; Scheveningen, 1653; Solebay, 1672; Barfleur, 1692; Quiberon, 1759; Cooks voyages, 1772-9; The Saintes, 1782.'

The photograph is captioned 'Battle honour shield / Oak shield mounted on aft side of "X" barbette'.

Engineer Lieutenant Herbert Allan Slade had been appointed to HMS Resolution on 3 May 1916 while it was building. He was promoted to Engineer Lieutenant Commander with seniority of 1 August 1917 having passed 'very creditably for rank of E.L.Cr' on 5 April 1917.
