The tin stand and iron case for a '6 pint' cooking apparatus

A sheet iron flared cylindrical case and a perforated tin stand to take the cooking lamps made for the British Arctic Expedition, 1875-76, led by Captain George Nares. The iron case is sheathed on the outside with tin to protect the external fearnought cover from the heat of the burners at the base. The inside has a number of brackets onto which the 6 pint stew pan (AAA4008.3) and 6 pint kettle (AAA4008.1 and AAA4008.2) sit when in use or packed away for sledging. The stearine and spirit lamps fitted into the tin stand of the apparatus.

The scale drawing for the case and stand, and the rest of the '6 pint' cooking apparatus, is NPD3863.
