A Dutch flagship lying-to
Intended primarily as a study of the arrangement and behaviour of sails and flags in a breeze, this pen and ink study shows a port broadside view of a vessel with flag and pendant at the main lying-to with mizzen and main topsail filled on the starboard tack and with fore and mizzen topsails half-mast high and aback.
