A painting showing an English man-of-war in the left foreground, in a calm. A number of other ships are at anchor in the distance. Behind the man-of-war a ship is firing a salute visible on the far left, an action repeated by another ship in the distance. A number of ships’ boats are also moving between the ships and shore. In the foreground three figures stand in the water on the shoreline, all involved in catching fish with various nets.

This painting, from about 1720, is one of a pair with BHC0951.
