La Rochelle: sailing vessels leaving the harbour
Oil painting. A boat with a red sail has just passed out through the fortified entrane, with the Tour Saint-Nicolas on the left and the round Tour de la Chaîne on the other side: the fishing boat with the white sail follows. Everett has placed himself in the shade of the medieval walls, to catch the effect of late-afternoon light from the south-west through the massive entrance.
