A three-quarter length portrait photograph of Captain Robert F. Scott in full uniform. He is wearing the badge of the Royal Victorian Order around his neck and the Polar Medal with the 1901-04 clasp on his left breast.

Scott was promoted to the rank of captain in September 1904 and his expedition members were awarded the Polar Medal in 1904 by King Edward VII. The King also made him a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 1904.
