Off Duty
Oil painting of a Naval Brigade sailor, with his sennet hat hanging on the fixed bayonet of his grounded rifle as he lights a cigarette. A slightly unhinged door is ajar behind to the left. Whether 'Off Duty' is the original artist's title remains to be confirmed, but the man's equipment indicates he has been standing guard as a sentry and is lighting up after being relieved, probably in a conflict zone involving a naval landing, possibly Egypt given the date. [SCU0039, a statuette of a seaman in naval brigade landing rig, is by the same artist.]
