Mainmast sails
Oil painting on canvas, removed from its original stretcher. It shows a sunlit view from the upper top on the foremast of a barque, looking back and down at the double main topsails and main course, with the sea horizon two-thirds of the way up the picture. Shadows of the upper foresails fall on th mainsail. It is a dramatic viewpoint, very familiar from shipboard photography, though Everett presumably did it from sketches. On what ship is not clear.
