The Baltic Fleet with rowing boats in the foreground
Medium includes bodycolour and graphite. Carmichael was with the Baltic Fleet during the Crimean War. The presence of French boats here - France being allied with Britain in this- suggests this is a particular incident on the 14 July 1855 which aappears to be the inscribed date, with other wording yet to be deciphered.
