George Monck (1608-1670), 1st Duke of Albemarle

The received attribution of this picture to Sailmaker must be considered doubtful, not least since he is not recorded as doing portraits The supposed likeness here to Albemarle is also open to question and the composition as a whole relates to better known images of Maarten Tromp (see for example BHC3061) of which there are various versions probably disseminated through Dutch print versions.
