Seascape, Guadeloupe
Calm water with dark trees and clouds, possibly by moonlight. Inscribed 'PaP' (Pointe-à-Pitre). Everett painted many cloud studies and quick sketches to capture the effect of light on water. These studies were often done from the ships on which he travelled as a deep water sailor, which allowed him to instantly portray his ever-changing surroundings. On his voyages around the world, Everett sketched the coastlines of 'exotic' locations, such as Guadeloupe, Cape Town, and Sydney.
