A large Dutch ship with a quartering wind
One of a group of freely drawn, but accurate, drawings dating from around 1672, that is, about the time that the van de Veldes moved to England. The ship is seen from astern sailing with wind. On the tafferel (the upper part of the stern) an oval shield is roughly sketched in, without the detail that would make identification of the ship possible (as in the case of the ‘Hilversum’).
