The barque 'Bernard'
This ‘Bernard’ is first listed in Lloyd’s Register as ship rigged, but as a barque after 1830, and last appears in 1843. Here she is shown barque-rigged in two positions off Dover.
The ship’s name is painted on her bow in white lettering. A two-masted lugger attends her, perhaps carrying a pilot or more likely, judging from the number of bodies on board, ferrying passengers.
