Inscribed: "To that distinguished Nobleman from whose precepts & example the British Navy has derived its present unrivalled state of discipline and glorious preeminence John Earl of St Vincent, K. B. late first Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty, Admiral of the Red, Lieut General of Marines &c. - This view of the commencement of the action between His Majesty's Ship Shannon and the United States Frigate Chesapeake, off Boston Light House, on the 1st of June 1813, is respectfully dedicated by his Lordship's obedient servt.
