To... Captain Broke... of His Majesty's Ship Shannon. This View of their Boarding and Capturing the American United States Frigate the Chesapeake off Boston on the 1st of June 1813

Hand-coloured aquatint depicting Captain Broke of the Shannon (centre back), boarding and capturing the Chesapeake (centre-right, foreground), an American frigate, off Boston on the first of June, 1813. It is very dramatic, with sailors falling through the air as smoke billows from the captured ship, and the violent fighting is depicted clearly. Over 120 men were killed in this short, bloody fight.
