Napier's Glorious Triumph over the Miguelite Squadron.... the Don John rounding to, and hauling down her colours: The Rainha de Portugal wearing to chase the Martin Freitus, which was endeavouring to escape, and the Donna Maria securing her Prize. (Inscription also in Portuguese)

This coloured lithograph depicts a confrontation between two factions of the Portuguese Navy on 5th July 1833. Those supporting Dom Pedro, commanded by Captain Charles Napier, fought a successful action against the Dom Miguel faction. In 1834, support for Dom Miguel collapsed. Napier then returned to the British Navy. The ship in the centre of the picture is the Nao Rainha.

The inscriptions in English on the lower right are repeated in Portuguese on the lower left.
