The barque 'Windward'

Oil painting by William Ball Spencer, entitled 'The barque Windward'. This picture was previously listed as by his father Richard Ball Spencer (1812-97), though clearly signed 'W. B. Spencer' lower left. Both were mid-19th-century ship portrait painters, working in a similar style. They also painted sea battles copied from other images, but in their own style. Richard is more commonly found. For details of William, see BHC3286.
