Copy after Raphael’s Garvagh/Aldobrandini Madonna

Gouache copy after Raphael’s ‘Garvagh/Aldobrandini Madonna’ (1509-10) (National Gallery, London, NG 744). In the original painting, the Christ Child, seated on the Madonna’s lap, is shown receiving a carnation from the infant Saint John the Baptist, shown at lower right; interior scene with landscape exterior. This copy noticeably omits several details present in the original: haloes above all three figures, the carnation, and John the Baptist’s cross. Probably 19th century.
