Official boat badge of HMS Hecla
The boat badge of HMS 'Hecla' The official design submitted in November 1919. On a black field, four red flames. The ship was called after an Icelandic volcano. The badge is a diamond shape with a gold rope twist border representing an auxiliary. It is made of cast brass, painted and drilled at the corners. 'HECLA' is inscribed on the reverse. 'Hecla' was a depot ship, ex 'British Crown' purchased in 1878. She was rebuilt in 1912 and sold in 1926. The same name was used by a depot ship, purchased in 1940 and sunk 12 November 1942 by U-515.
