China War Medal 1842
Awarded to Petty Officer James Smith. Obverse: Head of Queen Victoria with a diadem. hair tied in a knot (L). Legend: "VICTORIA REGINA". Reverse: At the foot of a palm tree a trophy of flags, cannon, the royal shield, a capstan, etc. Legend: "ARMIS EXPOSCERE PACEM". Exergue: "CHINA" 1842. Inscription on edge, "***JAMES SMITH.PETTY OFFR. H.M.S.ENDYMION*". Fitted with a plain bar and crimson ribbon (1 1/2" wide) edged with yellow (only a scrap remains).
