Medal, Prince of Wales visit to India 1875-6
Awarded to Admiral Sir Frederick George Denham Bedford (1838-1913). Glazed silver medal surmounted by an Imperial Crown. Obverse: Head of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (left) within an oval surrounded by a wreath of laurel. Reverse: The Prince of Wales crest with motto 'ICH DIEN' within a garter inscribed: 'HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE'. Surrounded by the collar, chain and badge of a Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Star of India. Legend: 'HRH ALBERT EDWARD PRINCE OF WALES. INDIA 1875-6.' Inscription on edge: 'PRESENTED BY H.R.H. THE PRINCE OF WALES TO CDR G.G.D. BEDFORD. R.N., H.M.S.SERAPIS, MAY 1876'. Suspended by a ring from a very faded blue ribbon edged white.
Bedford, then Captain RN, was in command of HMS 'Serapis' which carried the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) to India and back during a royal tour in 1875-76.
